About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Carson. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in general accounting, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has hands-on experience with Avalara and sales & use tax compliance. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in month-end close, tax reporting, reconciliations, and supporting the Controller with day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Perform full-cycle general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.

  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analyses.

  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.

  • Assist with annual audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.

Sales & Use Tax / Avalara

  • Manage sales and use tax compliance across multiple states, including filing, remittance, and reporting.

  • Maintain and update tax codes, product taxability, and nexus requirements within Avalara AvaTax.

  • Reconcile monthly sales tax liability accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Monitor changes in tax regulations and ensure the company remains compliant.

  • Support tax audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.

Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable Support

  • Review AP and AR transactions for accuracy and proper coding.

  • Assist with vendor and customer account reconciliations as needed.

  • Support cash flow forecasting and weekly payment planning.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.

  • Assist in system enhancements, automation initiatives, and accounting workflow improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-state environments.

  • Hands-on experience with Avalara AvaTax is required.

  • Strong knowledge of sales & use tax regulations and multi-state compliance.

  • Proficiency in general accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).

  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Dynamics, Sage, or similar) is a plus.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
