We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Carson. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in general accounting, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has hands-on experience with Avalara and sales & use tax compliance. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in month-end close, tax reporting, reconciliations, and supporting the Controller with day-to-day financial operations.
Perform full-cycle general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
Lead month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analyses.
Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
Assist with annual audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Manage sales and use tax compliance across multiple states, including filing, remittance, and reporting.
Maintain and update tax codes, product taxability, and nexus requirements within Avalara AvaTax.
Reconcile monthly sales tax liability accounts and resolve discrepancies.
Monitor changes in tax regulations and ensure the company remains compliant.
Support tax audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
Review AP and AR transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
Assist with vendor and customer account reconciliations as needed.
Support cash flow forecasting and weekly payment planning.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
Assist in system enhancements, automation initiatives, and accounting workflow improvements.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-state environments.
Hands-on experience with Avalara AvaTax is required.
Strong knowledge of sales & use tax regulations and multi-state compliance.
Proficiency in general accounting principles (GAAP).
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Dynamics, Sage, or similar) is a plus.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
